EL CUERPO AUSENTE (The absent body) is a show that involves japanese bunraku, object theatre and dance. Along an hour, it tells the story of Mariana Sánchez, a woman executed by firearm at the end of the Spanish Civil War.
Her body, buried in a mass grave, will be removed to fill the inmense mausoleum built by the dictator, where "there's room for all who died in the war", avoiding that way to be buried alone.
This project is a recollection exercise and an homage that wants to "recover" those bodies that were lost, those absent bodies that are still buried at the sideroads, paths, cemeteries walls, or under the walls and cripts of the dictator's mausoleum.
At the same time, we present this project, from all the repect, with a certain quantity of humour, so necessary to be able to deal with such a smudged "official" history,
so manipulated and that keeps muddling our present.
El Cuerpo Ausente had its premiere on 22nd of November of 2013 in the XXXII Festival of Puppetry of Bilbao. The play was performed in Madrid on December of 2013 in Nave 73 and on March 2014 in La Belloch and the Espacio de Bel Alzamora, at the Festival Ellas Crean (They Create Festival).
